As 2000 neared, the need for inpatient care diminished. In 1990 Elizabeth General purchased the assets of Alexian Brothers Hospital, a hospital that had served the community since 1892. Following the acquisition the Alexian Brothers Hospital building remained a vibrant healthcare facility. It houses the Department of Behavioral Health and Psychiatry, including all inpatient and outpatient services. The building also remains the home to the Brother Bonaventure Extended Care Center, a skilled nursing facility established by the Alexian Brothers in the 1980’s.
